Celosia spicata
These soft pink, plumed flowers are a type of celosia known as flamingo feather. They are a stunning dried flower because they have such a unique form and they hold both their colour and shape perfectly. Their branching stems are very sturdy when dried, making this variety ideal for vases, as they will not droop.
Celosia flowers are part of the amaranth family and are heat loving plants, originating from areas such as Mexico, South America, southern Asia and tropical parts of Africa. It is a widespread wildflower in these areas, where it is also cultivated for its edible leaves, just like amaranth. If you live in a tropical region, this would be a wonderful flower for drying that you might consider growing at home, as it enjoys warmth and humidity.
Style your flowers around your home by filling little vases with these cheerful pops of colour; mix them with bunny tails or some foraged grasses to create a meadow-like arrangement; or cut the stems short and use them to add to a dried wreath or other creative project.
As with all of my flowers, these blooms are completely natural, locally grown, and I have carefully dried them myself in my home studio. Naturally dried flowers will last for years with a bit of care, simply keep them in a mild environment, away from humidity and harsh sunlight.
