Cornflower - Blue
Centaurea cyanus 'Blue' or Bachelor's Button
Happy little pom poms as blue as the deep sea... cornflowers are easy to grow and will self seed readily, providing you with effortless blooms for years to come. They are native to areas of Europe, where they grow like weeds among the fields of grain and corn, hence the name!
The best part of these flowers are their delicate, fluted petals that are edible and highly prized in the culinary world. Use them to garnish your salads, sprinkle them on top of desserts, add them to teas, get creative by using them to make botanical dye or floral confetti, and make sure you dry some and pop in a jar for later. Drying cornflower petals is easy... once the flowers are in full bloom, pluck them and lay them out in a flat layer on a large tray until they are dry... this is also a calming chore that kids LOVE to help with!
